Homemade Chicken and Leek Pie

There was a time when all I would order from a pub menu was pie and mash,  I have ordered and eaten loads but have never made my own.

With some spare time last weekend I decided to give it a go...

I have to confess that I did buy the pastry ready made...I will make my own next time.

I was so relieved to see the pie had not burnt in the oven, although the bottoms and sides of the pie did stick to the tin! The top pastry, to me, came out perfectly...golden brown and crispy. The filling tasted amazing, so many powerful flavours.

The recipe for this pie is from BBC Food Recipes - Chicken and Leek Pie

No trip to IKEA is complete without having one of their hotdogs!

The Soulville Steakhouse, Nottingham

We had been meaning to visit this restaurant for a while and so after an unsuccessful shopping trip in the rain we decided to cheer ourselves up and go in.

The music played is all soul and Motown classics. The interior offers a visual feast on its own, a spiral staircase leads to a small upper level and the walls are full of posters and phrases...we certainly didn't get bored.

After spending a lot of time drooling over the menu I went for the 8oz sirloin steak cooked medium/rare. Not being able to decided what sauce to have I went for two...to share of course...red wine gravy with caramelised red onion and smoked bacon and the Jack Daniels Tennessee whisky sauce.

I was sooo excited to see my plate appear at the top of the staircase...packed full with tasty foods. I could not fault anything with this meal. The steak was cooked just how I like it, no fat and juicy. The sauces complemented the steak and chips well. Even the salad was tasty with a lemony dressing.

Despite my belly pushing against my belt I still needed to try the pudding. This didn't take long to decide at all...Bailey's Profiterole Toffee Cheesecake...I love all these things. The toffee was rich and addictive, the best cheesecake I have ever eaten!

Rajni, Borrowash

This little Indian restaurant in Borrowash has become my family’s favourite eatery. We come here for all occasions where celebrating over food and drinks is a must.

The restaurant has not been around for long but has already won awards for it's food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The service is great and if needed dishes on the menu are explained and recommended.

You cannot buy alcohol here, so before going in to dine we always pop across the road to the co-op to get a couple of bottles of wine.

On this occasion we were celebrating my sisters Birthday, as it was on a Tuesday we all opted for the offer menu... 4 courses for £9.50!
